Venom pours from Fuji's mouth and ignites as it touches the air, scorching the slabs of stone she stands on. The baleful flames create a wall to repel the worst of the Heatran's magma, though they still rush along the cave's ceilings, not deterred by the heat. [break][break]

Tsubaki peers at them from behind her sleeve. She's not out of the woods yet, but she's just lucky she had an answer to beat the heat. [break][break]

"Nice work, Fuji! Now, set 'em alight-- W-whoa!"[break][break]

All the commotion around them causes the floor to shift and open up, and she plunges straight down into darkness, helpless against the pull of gravity. [break][break]

Steam scorched and swirled round Temp's face, making his skin prick with sweat.[break][break]

The Heatran blast flame, lava dribbling from open maws. It sizzles on the ground, as deadly as venom. But Durandal slices back with wave after wave of water. It just has to be long enough for the others to get through. Just long enough for....[break][break]

The ground rumbles, rock suddenly crumbling under his feet.[break][break]

Tempest in confronted with his worst fear as he plummets into darkness.[break][break]

... but not too far. He slams on the ground, aching, but nothing seems to be broken. Scratched, scarred, bruised- maybe jammed. Not broken, though, so he's able to push himself to his feet.[break][break]

Pushing himself to his feet, Tempest can already feel the walls crushing down on him. It makes his breath come in sharp pants, panic slowly rising. The earth, the walls, they were-[break][break]

"No no no. Calm down." Muttered to himself, his own voice seems to linger in the room. Fumbling with his suit, it takes a few tries from shaking fingers for the flashlight in his suit to come on.[break][break]

A quick scan doesn't reveal much, his light peters out in the dark before it reaches any walls, but he does see something he didn't expect.[break][break]

Another person.[break][break]

"Hey." It's one he recognizes, kind of. The girl from Dewford, who stopped him from gathering intel before. The traitor who abandoned Rocket. The right thing to do would be to drive a knife through her heart while she's down. No more problems.[break][break]

Instead, Tempest kneels down and touches her shoulder. When she doesn't instantly lunge for his jugular, he starts to shake her lightly.[break][break]

"Hey. Get up."[break][break]

Something in the cavern dripped.[break][break]

If he was trapped down here, no sense in killing the only ally he had in getting back out. For now.

There's silence at first, the girl out cold. She's sprawled on the cave floor, her leg sticking out at an odd angle. There's no sign of her pokemon.[break][break]

Drip...[break][break]

Slowly, she reacts. A sudden, sharp intake of breath as she registers the pain, and then she silences herself, holding it. Listening in the dark for the voice she thought she heard.[break][break]

It's familiar. A chill runs down her spine. She recognizes it, in all its cruel and cold glory. It isn't quite the same though, a tinge of panic welling up from underneath as he insists that she wake up. Something she never thought she might hear in that voice that seemed so fearless back in Granite Cave.[break][break]

"... I'm awake."[break][break]

There isn't much to say. She tries to lift her leg, but instead she lets out a shudder and a grunt of pain, unable to lift herself from the floor.[break][break]

Drip...[break][break]

A sizzling sound comes from the man's shoulder. [break][break]

Soon it would burn through his clothes, corrosive venom dropping from the ceiling above. If he would look up, he'd see a Salazzle clinging to the ceiling, staring directly at him with obsidian eyes. [break][break]

She leaps without a moment to spare, jaws extending wide.[break][break]

There is a grumble of concern, a muttered curse not hidden under Tempest's breath.[break][break]

"Think your leg's broken. I know first aide, but it might-"[break][break]

His voice is cut off by a howling shriek of pain. It echoes in the cavern, having Tempest jerk away as acid coats his shoulder and back. It burns through the utility of his combat clothing, turning the skin raw and red and making it peel away to slough blood. Spine twisting, the searing his skin makes him grit his teeth.[break][break]

He never sees the Salazzle coming.[break][break]

Thankfully, instead of his throat being ripped out by sharp teeth, the Salazzle doesn't make it to him.[break][break]

A surge of water, Liquidation, as Durandal tries to bodily slam into the Salazzle. The Kabutops tries to slam down with her long blades, to slice the fire type's neck for it's crimes against Tempest.

She bares her fangs, venom pooling from her mouth hitting the rock beneath her, scorching molten marks in the earth. She stares silently, waiting for the ancient pokemon to make its next move as she nurses her wound.[break][break]

That open mouth is enough to light the cavern in a violet hue, if only for a moment. That's all the confirmation she needs.[break][break]

The voice. His eyes, reflected through her Nihilego's crystalline body. There's no mistake. This is the same man from Granite Cave.[break][break]

"Fuji, wait!"[break][break]

Tsubaki raises her hand, and the pokemon stops. Tendrils snap in anticipation, slowly going up in flames, but she doesn't move.[break][break]

"You were the one from Granite Cave, weren't you?"[break][break]

Tsubaki asks the man with accusation in her voice. If he hadn't mentioned first aid, if he hadn't been willing to help a stranger in need, this would be all so simple. [break][break]

He's a Rocket. She's a former member of their ilk, and a member of the League. A defector.[break][break]

They're meant to be enemies.[break][break]

Tempest groans and keeps his eyes squeezed shut, feeling as spots start to move behind his eyes from the force of it. Durandal takes point in front of him, grinding her forelimbs together. The quiet shing! of the blades ringing in the cavern. She's ready to pounce on the Salazzle in turn, just as aggressive.[break][break]

The sting doesn't go away but it fades enough for him to pant softly and open his eyes back up. Tempest raises his head back up and the light from the flashlight in his suit hits the girl before him.[break][break]

"Yeah." Bitten out, rough, he snarls his lip back at her.[break][break]

"I try to set your leg, you going to have your lizard attack me again?" An accusatory look is flicked between Fuji and Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki, looking for any deception on her face.

Still, she's seen the scared look in his eyes. It's just him and her down here, the rest of the expedition carrying on. If he's offering her help, who is she to refuse?[break][break]

"Depends," Tsubaki says after a moment's pause.[break][break]

"You gonna try and kill me again?"[break][break]

Her Salazzle hisses at the Kabutops, but she doesn't move from her place on the ceiling. She sticks out her tongue to taste the fear of her master on the air, and acid drips onto the floor and sets alight.[break][break]

"I don't kill infants." Was snorted out. This girl looked young. On the cusp of adulthood, maybe, but she still had a certain softness to her cheeks that only youth had.[break][break]

His shoulder still hurt like a bitch, the smell now worse than a gastro acid as finished off his skin, but Tempest still pulled himself closer to her. If she decided to accept his answer or not was up to her.[break][break]

The small bag on his hip is full of various things. Most of them useful, not all of them helpful in this situation. A pain blocker spray and some bandages are pulled out. Too bad he doesn't have anything to use as a splint.[break][break]

The can's lid is popped open and shaken up. He doesn't warn her when he starts to spray it on her leg. It would burn, only icy cold instead of hot, before slowly numbing the effected area.[break][break]

"This is still going to hurt like a bitch. Bite onto your shirt. Hard as you can." His hands rest on the junctions of the break. They only tremble a little.

"Fuck, that hurts! You're tellin' me that's not..."[break][break]

Her tongue is sharp like a rose has thorns. She has to stop herself, refraining from making biting commentary on the process. This man's likely the type to keep going whether she complies or not, and she's rather not bite off her own tongue just cause he's impatient. [break][break]

Shoving her arm into her mouth, she bites down hard, nodding as she prepares to set her leg. A bead of sweat drips down her cheek as she waits, the anticipation alone nearly killing her. [break][break]

A sudden thought runs through her head. She should've numbed herself with a topical poison before this all started. But it's too fucking late for that now, isn't it?[break][break]

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki is 100% right. Tempest would have continued regardless of her compliance. He only hesitates for a few moments, giving her time to adjust as well as a sharp look.[break][break]

Then the burning pain and crack of a leg set.[break][break]

Tempest doesn't sit on his laurels, grunting as he tries to keep Tsubaki still and wrap her leg. It's just a temporary solution. She'll need a doctor to fix it for good. The healing hand of a pokemon to speed up the process. Down here, in this cavern, Tempest can only offer so much.[break][break]

Finally, with a shaking breath, he pulls his hands away.[break][break]

Eventually, Tsubaki finds herself laying back on the cavern floor, panting, staring up at the ceiling. The wound on her arm is cauterized. She's not bleeding out, but it hurts like a bitch.[break][break]

Fuji rests her warm body atop her, staring at the mystery Rocket with suspicion.[break][break]

"... Th... Than--... That fucking hurts..."[break][break]

She almost thanks him, before remembering who she's talking to.[break][break]

The guy tried to kill her before.[break][break]

"... Why'd you...?"[break][break]

"No shit." But the response isn't heated, isn't snappy or hateful. Tempest is pale, beads of sweat collecting in his hairline.[break][break]

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki's screams had echoed. The scent of blood in his nostrils. Burning flesh.[break][break]

But he tries to focus on her instead of the creeping thumping of his heart.[break][break]

"You can't fight back." On a larger scale? Yes. Her pokemon would fight. She could probably take swipes at him. But her leg was broken. A sitting duck, should her Salazzle fail.[break][break]

"I have some morals. Killing someone without a fair chance doesn't feel right." If Tsubaki had been on her feet, had been coming at him properly... it would have been an easy fight to pick. But seeing her laying on the ground, he just couldn't. It was like with ollie morales. It just feels wrong to punch someone not willing to or able to defend themselves.
